Professor Dr.Ahrar khan is employed as special professor of our college

    Prof. Dr. Ahrar Khan had been Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF), Pakistan and has more than 33 years teaching and research experience. He has rendered Services in National Cadet Corps from 1973 to 1975.Hisacademic career is bright. He got first position in M.Sc. (Hons) Veterinary Pathology examination (1983) and joined UAF service in 1985. After completing his PhD degree, he left for Postdoctoral studies at the University of Georgia, Athens, USA. He has supervised 10 PhDs and 46 M.Sc. (Hons)/MPhil students as Major Supervisor. He had also been Co-supervisor of 13 PhDs and 57 M.Sc. (Hons)/MPhil students.

    He had been leading two research groups in the Department of Pathology, UAF, viz. “Infectious Diseases of Food Animals”and “Toxico-Pathology”. He had completed several research projects as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI.It is worth mentioning that most of his research was sponsored by different funding agencies like, Pakistan Science Foundation, Punjab Agricultural Research Board, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, UAF and Third World Academy of Sciences, Italy. Based on these research grants, he has been able to publish more than 140 research papers in impact factor journals of international repute such as Scientific Reports, Microbial Pathogenesis, Toxin Reviews, Journal of Immunotoxicology, Ecotoxicology, Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, Human & Experimental Toxicology, Cell Biology and Toxicology,Experimental and Toxicologic Pathology, Avian Pathology, Poultry Science, British Poultry Science, Vaccine, Tropical Animal Health and Production, Pakistan Veterinary Journal, etc. He has also published77 papers in the local journals andauthored eight books. His published work has been cited more than 1400 times by the international community. Hish-Index is 20.Based on his research and other academic activities,Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan has been awarded him Research Productivity Award continuously for eight years, i.e., 2010-2017. Besides research papers, he has also publishedextension/popular articles for the public and industry awareness about the problems of poultry/livestock and their solutions.

    Prof. Khan had arranged more than 40 national/international conferences/symposia for the benefit of the faculty and students. He also participated in more than 60 national/international conferences/symposia for professional development. Other than Pakistan, he had presented his research findings in different countriesincluding USA, China,Turkey, Egypt,Morocco,Jordan,Bangladesh,United Arab Emiratesand Thailand. His oral presentation got first prize in the6th International Poultry Conference/3rd Mediterranean Summit of World Poultry Science Association held at Porto Marina,Alexandria, Egypt, 26-29 March 2012.

    He had been invited for special lectures byNanjingAgricultural University, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China; Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, China; China Agricultural University, Beijing, China; Shandong Binzhou Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine Academy, China; College of Public Health Sciences, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand and Tianjin Agricultural University, Tianjin, China. He has also been invited by various universities in Pakistan for special lectures on various topics.

    Besides routine teaching and research, Prof. Khan had served as the Editor then as Editor-in-Chief, Pakistan Veterinary Journal (PVJ), an official journal of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. Under his Editorship, PVJ gained Impact Factor 0.707 in 2010. Then the quality of publications in PVJ was improved and its Impact Factor was raised to 1.392 (2013). It is worth mentioning that at present, among Veterinary Sciences Journals of the world, PVJ has been placed in Q2 Quartile with Impact Factor 1.217 (JCR 2017). Prof. Khan has also served as resource person for the training of Editors of Social Science/Sciences Journals arranged by HEC. For this purpose, he conducted series of workshops in Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar.

    Prof. Khan was appointed as Director, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), UAF in 2011. Before taking this assignment, QEC-UAF was rated as <50% by the Quality Assurance Agency, HEC.Under his leadership, the rating was improved to 87.70 then to 96.67% (2015-16).

    Prof. Ahrar Khan had been HEC approved Supervisor and member of selection boards of various universities. He has also served as PhD Thesis External Examiner at College of Veterinary Medicine, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, China,Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia andChittagong University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Chittagong, Bangladesh. He convened many Academic and Non-Academic Committees in UAF and at National level. In addition to administration assignments, i.e., as Chairman, Department of Pathology, Director, QEC and Dean, FVS, UAF, Prof. Khan is an eminent accomplished academician and researcher, with national and international repute.
